Yudhoyono administration

In 2004, the largest one-day election in the world is held and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono emerged as the new Indonesian president. The new government at the beginning of his tenure has received numerous trials and challenges, such as major earthquakes in Aceh and Nias in December 2004 that make a bonfire of part of Aceh as well as other earthquakes in early 2005 that rocked Sumatra.

On July 17, 2005, an historic agreement was reached between the Indonesian government and Free Aceh Movement aimed at ending a 30-year conflict in Aceh.
