At the first General Session on August 2000, President Wahid gave an account. On January 29, 2001, thousands of demonstrators stormed the Assembly and requested the President to resign due to alleged involvement in corruption scandals. Under pressure from the Assembly to improve the management and coordination within the government, he issued a presidential decree giving the state power everyday to Vice President Megawati.
